Typhoid IgM rapid test

What it measures
Detects IgM (and sometimes IgG) antibodies to Salmonella Typhi outer membrane protein by a rapid test. It is used for quick screening in suspected enteric fever.

Causes of high values
- Recent Salmonella Typhi infection
- False positive from cross-reaction or past exposure
- Positive IgG alone may reflect past infection

Immunochromatography or dot-ELISA
Good to know
Accuracy is moderate; confirm with blood culture, especially before and in the first week of fever.
